Introduction to the new Multitenant JAMS

Over the last months, the JAMS Development team has been working hard on our newest system update. The work has been primarily focused on the application code and data migration; with the objective of merging the different versions of JAMS used by our clients into one product that would serve the whole user base across the board.

Whilst the changes mainly affect the system backend, there have also been updates on the user end that we want to inform you about.

Optional features (called Application Features) have been added to the system to provide additional functionality and customisation to the journals. Clients can now manage these features directly from the JAMS workspace and independently configure their editorial workflows.

This new update will make the platform easier to maintain and upgrade for the JAMS team, as well as more flexible and customisable for the clients.

What has changed?

Single-journal clients will now be able to:

  • customise their editorial workflow,

  • manage the journal’s users and editorial team management,

  • access an Application Features menu that can be managed by the Managing Editor.

Multi-journal clients now:

  • have additional features to choose from,

  • and have access to an Application Features menu that can be managed by the Managing Editor.

How will this work?

The features will be managed through the new Application Features menu on JAMS (sneak peek on the new screen in the snip below).

The options can be switched on/off at will by the Managing Editor via the new menu. Once the feature has been activated, it will be immediately activated for your journal(s) and vice versa if a feature has been deactivated.

This allows for additional independence as it does not require intervention from the JAMS team.

We are going to post additional articles to elaborate on these features in more detail. Stay tuned!
