Generating XML File for CrossRef Registration

CrossRef allows registering content to generate Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs). This can be done prior to publication by providing metadata such as dates, article title, authors' names and affiliations etc. One way of registering an article with CrossRef (easier than manual deposit) is by uploading an XML file which holds the necessary metadata for a batch of articles.

JAMS supports generating this XML batch file from the moment an article is accepted. You can find more information on how to generate the file in the steps below.

  1. Once the article has been accepted, navigate to the XML Crossref page in the Production menu.

Generate New XML button
  1. Select a journal for which you would like to generate a XML batch file and click Generate. When the override option is not ticked, the system will generate an XML batch holding all the articles in that journal which have previously not yet been included in any batch. In case the override option is ticked, the system will generate a batch for all articles in the selected journal regardless of whether an XML batch for them was previously generated or not.

4. When an XML file has been successfully generated, a green banner notification will be shown. By clicking Back to XML list, you will be able to see the files.

  1. The latest generated XML files will be shown on the top of the list and you can download them by clicking on the XML batch ID.

If some of the article metadata are missing, the system will not be able to generate an XML batch and you will see exceptions returned by the system as shown in the screenshot below.

Please note that, in order to successfully generate an XML batch file for CrossRef registration, all the article metadata need to be properly entered. You can find more about article metadata in this knowledge base article.
