DOI Number Automation
JAMS supports multiple ways of forming DOI numbers for published articles. The DOI prefix being a fixed value provided by a DOI-minting platform (such as CrossRef), JAMS lets publishers choose between three ways of generating the DOI suffix.
The first option is a manual input of the DOI suffix by the handling editor which implies manual input for each manuscript at a stage where it is being sent to conversion.
The second option provides the automatic generation of a random string. This means that the whole DOI suffix will be a randomly generated alphanumeric string (this is a method recommended by Crossref).
If the publisher opts for the third option, the DOI suffix will be automatically generated according to the chosen article metadata.
Automatically constructing suffix can be adjusted by numerous variables. Publishers can select values such as journal name, publication year, volume number, issue number as well as a desired string or a separator which can be added.
By using the automatic suffix construction option, the system will automatically pull the article metadata from a manuscript and form the DOI accordingly. You can find more about the manuscript publication metadata by following this link: https://mdpi.atlassian.net/wiki/x/EwD6f
